New plastic products development

Plastic product development

The development of a product is divided into 4 phases:

  1. Study of materials
  2. Analysis of the applicable regulations
  3. Design
  4. Industralisation

Study of materials

The study of materials may consider the sustitution of conventional polymers for biopolymers, the introduction of recycled materials or the sustitution of metals or ceramic materials for polymeric materials. The aim is to provide the product with certain properties or to reduce costs. In this phase, AIMPLAS helps companies to define the requisites set by the final use and by the client’s requirements: it looks for commercial materials suitable for the described requisites and study the properties of all previous materials.

Analysis of the applicable regulations

The next step is to analyse the applicable regulations of the soon-to-be developed product. AIMPLAS offers assistance during this process based on the product study and requisites definition and the study of the product’s legislation and regulations, considering the markets where it would be distributed.

Design

Subsequently, and taking the 3D product’s design as a starting point, the company initiates protyping and short series production toward the validation of the final product. When it comes to manufacturing, there are two possibilities: either the manufacturing process for metal removal or the additive manufacturing, depending on product’s geometry and dimensions.

Industralisation

Finally, it is time for the industrialisation phase. AIMPLAS, taking into account the material used to manufacture the product, offers companies assistance on search and selection of materials manufacturers or transformers by carrying out a technical and economic study of the selected offers.
