Objectives

Research into the different grades of biodegradable polymeric materials that can be used to obtain bags, together with an evaluation of the materials’ printing capability.

Description

Research was carried out into the printing capability of different grades of biodegradable polymeric materials that can be used to produce bags, as well as their modification by compounding in order to achieve similar degrees of performance as bags made of conventional plastic material. The research and development in this project have generated detailed knowledge about the influence of surface physical and chemical characteristics of biodegradable polymers, and about the printing quality obtained in the different printing techniques (rotogravure and flexography) used on conventional plastic materials.
