R&D Projects
Objectives:
The main objective of the project is to develop new high-barrier, long-life, low-cost, recyclable packaging through a special injection-moulded process (co-injection) for food applications.
Description:
The core of the new packaging was made of a renewable material (starch) and it meets the required physical-mechanical and chemical properties for optimum production and use. This new packaging will be able to replace around 10% of the co-extruded barrier multilayer packages currently used (five years after finishing the project) and, thanks to its design flexibility, it opens up new markets for products in which other packaging materials, such as glass and metal, are currently used.
Project partners:
3 technology centres and 5 companies
