AEROINJECTRGO

Biomaterials for bone regeneration with thermo-reversible properties and injectable biomaterials with aerosol capacity

SDG

AIMPLAS is aligned in this project with the following Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Objectives

The project aims to develop and implement a product portfolio for maxillofacial tissue regeneration to reduce the amount of surgical intervention in this area.

Description

The reconstruction of major tissue defects is one of the main challenges facing modern maxillofacial surgery. Current treatments are incomplete or are only feasible at certain stages of the regeneration process, entailing costly surgical operations and involving risks to health. In this sense, allogenic bone grafts can be used to a certain extent for simple bone tissue defects, but they still have several drawbacks, such as their cost, their limited mechanical properties and the risk of disease transmission. However, in recent years, an alternative technique to repair and restore bone tissue has emerged in the field of tissue engineering. This technique, in the shape of third generation biomaterials, prioritises the interaction of these biomaterials with biological tissue, in conjunction with their structural function.

The project has been co-funded by the IVACE ACTION PLAN 2017, a programme supported by the Valencian Regional Government’s Ministry of Sustainable Economy, Productive Sectors, Trade and Employment through the Valencian Institute of Business Competitiveness (IVACE).
