DESCONTAPOL

Research into decontamination and purification operations of sustainable plastic materials during their processing

RecyclingSustainable materialsCircular economyRecyclingRegional

Objectives:

To eliminate hazardous substances contained in recycled plastics that until now have limited their application. This is the case of odours or elements that affect their physical properties such as resistance. The aim is also to eliminate other substances which do not disappear during the recycling process and have been limited by food contact legislation for plastics.

Description:

The research being conducted at AIMPLAS is modifying current recycling processes and is developing new ancillary processes to obtain materials and products with greater added technical and environmental value. This will enable us to expand the markets in which recycled plastics are currently used to include industries such as the packaging, automotive, agriculture, electrical and electronic sectors. The percentage of plastic sent to landfill and is not recovered will also be reduced, as will the production cost of goods that are manufactured with recycled plastic instead of virgin material.
