Objectives

The development of high-performance sheeting to increase safety in vessels such as fishing boats, army patrol boats and coast guard vessels.

Description

Armour is made up of two layers. The outer layer changes the bullet’s morphology, reducing penetration, while the inner layer absorbs the energy of the impact. Ballistic tests have been performed successfully by using 7.62 calibre military ammunition, usually used in assault rifles and machine guns, although the armour’s composition can be adapted to the risk level required by each customer. The advantages of this material over others used up until now, such as steel, are that it its lighter in weight and has better corrosion behaviour. Lightness is an essential aspect in the shipping and transport sector, since it generates fuel-savings, consequently reducing CO2 emissions into the atmosphere, and bringing environmental benefits.
