Objectives

Development of a biodegradable nanocomposite-based material to produce flexible tubes for cosmetic packaging.

Description

The project’s challenge was to develop a new biodegradable material and produce packaging for cosmetic products that can replace the current containers obtained from polyolefins. It was a complex task, considering that the shelf life of beauty products is long at around two and a half years. In addition, it had to comply with the strict requirements that packaging materials must have. New bioplastics were developed within the project both for the packaging’s tubular structure and for the cap manufactured by injection. The new packages were validated with three different types of cosmetic products: the first had a vitamin C active ingredient; the second was a sun protection filter; and the last one was a multiple-protection facial cream manufactured from eco-friendly white tea.
