BIOS MATER
Re-designing the construction sector: Sustainable and functional bio-based construction products and building elements
Objectives
BIOS MATER aims to develop and demonstrate advanced bio-based construction products with specific advanced functional properties, such as durability, fire resistance, water barrier, acoustic and thermal insulation, lightweight structure, mechanical strength and antimicrobial properties, ensuring safety and sustainability.
Description
The BIOS MATER project seeks to transform construction through innovative bio-based products, focusing on four pillars:
Innovation: developing more durable, resistant and functional materials.
Safety and sustainability: applying the Safe and Sustainable by Design (SSbD) approach to protect health and the environment.
Circular economy: efficient and scalable production that uses resources responsibly.
Market adoption: promotion of digital transparency and social participation to drive its use.
To achieve this, four Production Routes (PR) have been defined:
PR A: sandwich structures with bio-based products for floors, interior panels and furniture.
PR B: panels and tiles with bio-based thermoplastics.
PR C: fibre-reinforced bio-resin composite panels for exterior facades.
PR D: bio-based foams for interior partitions.
Each route seeks to improve performance and sustainability, contributing to climate neutrality, pollution reduction and circularity in construction.
