Laboratories accredited by EMA
in accordance with ISO 17025 standard

AIMPLAS is accredited by the Mexican accreditation body (EMA) as a test laboratory under the NMX-EC-17025-IMNC-2018 (ISO/IEC 17025:2017) standard for tests on plastic materials in composting conditions, biodegradation in soil and disintegration in composting.

What is EMA?

EMA is recognized internationally by both the International Accreditation Forum (IAF) and the International Laboratory Accreditation Cooperation (ILAC), which bolsters the international recognition of AIMPLAS’ accredited tests in Spain, where we are the leading laboratory in terms of the number of tests performed on plastic materials.

Solid Waste Law – Mexico City

Prohibición bolsas de plástico

In 2020, Mexico City passed a Solid Waste Law to reduce the consumption of single-use plastics. The new law prohibits the use of all plastic bags, including biodegradable ones, unless they are compostable.

Biodegradable and compostable plastics are present in an ever-increasing number of products and their market share is expected to grow in coming years. In order to verify plastic biodegradability, different regulations provide for biodegradation analysis in different media (e.g. compost, soil). Performing the appropriate tests in internationally recognized accredited laboratories is essential to generate trust throughout the plastics value chain.
