To develope sustainable and high-performance foamed plastic packages for a safer food packaging
In this project, the development of foamed packages for pre-cooked food products (IV and V range) with microwave heat resistance is tackled, with two very different plastic materials: 1) Foamed PP packages, a material with a softening temperature that allows to withstand retort conditions (120ºC 30 min) by means of physical modifications of the material by combining it with other materials or additives to optimize its physical foaming. 2) Sustainable foamed packages obtained from biodegradable and compostable materials by means of chemical modifications of the material to improve its thermal resistance and its foaming, resulting in the decrease of the amount of raw material per packaging, thus reducing the cost.
