DESCONTAPOL

R&D of decontamination and purification operations of sustainable plastic materials during its processing

RecyclingSustainable materialsCircular economyRecyclingRegional

Objectives:

Drastically eliminate hazardous substances contained in recycled plastics that until now limited its application. This is the case of odours or elements that affect its physical properties such as resistance. Moreover, it allows to eliminate other substances that, until now, did not disappear during the recycling process and were limited by the legislation in the case of food-contact plastics.

Description:

The researches currently carried out by AIMPLAS, modify the existing recycling processes and develop new auxiliary processes to obtain higher added-value materials and products both technically and environmentally. In this way, it is possible to expand markets to which the production of recycled plastics is currently targeted, to industries from the packaging, automotive, agriculture and electrical-electronic sectors. Besides, the percentage of plastic ending up in landfills and not recovered is also reduced, as well as the manufacturing costs of those goods made with recycled plastic instead of virgin raw material.
