The main objective of the project is the development of compostable biopolymers for the production of fibres and non.woven textiles for automotive interiors. The products developed must fulfil the requirements of the application such as thermal resistance and volatile emissions, and besides this they must have some additional functionalities such as antimicrobial and antiodour properties.
The main efforts in the project are focused on the improvement of the intrinsical properties of the nowadays available biopolymers, in order to fulfil with the requirements of the automotive application. To achieve this new compounding technologies such as reactive extrusion, are being used. Besides, novel additives with antimicrobial and anti-odour properties are being developed an tested. Morevoer, it is of key importance to assure the procesability of the developed compounds by melt spinning to obtain fibres and non-wovens, that must fulfil with the requirements of the application.
