Objectives:

The main objective of this project has been to industrialize the process related to the fabrication of different types of biodegradable-compostable nets, obtained by Extrusion Melt Spinning process for agriculture (citrus fruits, potatoes, onions) and shellfish packaging products.

Description:

The main output of the ECOBIONET project has been the industrialisation of the production of four different biodegradable packaging nets: oriented and non-oriented nets of two or three filaments in combination with plastic sheets, in a conventional one-step extrusion process using as a base material the biodegradable compounds developed in a preliminary project.
Besides maintaining all of the properties of conventional nets, this new biodegradable packaging is also compostable. This means that after 6 months in conditions of industrial compostability they turn into fertilizer for plants, therefore being introduced once again into the product growing cycle.
