Objectives:

Development of a high-performance sheeting to increase safety in vessels such as fishing boats, army patrol boats and coast guard.

Description:

Armor is formed by two layers. The exterior part is the one who changes the bullet’s morphology and makes it less penetrating, while the interior part absorbs the impact energy. Ballistic tests have been performed successfully by using 7.62 calibre military ammunition, usually used in assault rifles and machine guns, although the armour’s composition can be adapted to the risk level that each customer has. Among the advantages of this material respect of others that were used until now in armours, such as steel, is that it has a lighter weight and a better corrosion behaviour. Lightness is an essential aspect in the naval and transport sector, since it allows a saving of the fuel used. Due to this reason, CO2 emissions to the atmosphere are also reduced, what entails an advantage for the environment.
