The aim of LIFE PISA Project (LIFE13 ENV/ES/000504) is to demonstrate the viability of the combination of several systems currently used to control Lepidoptera pests to be applied in different urban or recreational areas in different countries (with different climate and soil conditions), where the air or massive spray is not possible. Moreover, LIFE PISA aims to improve current traps systems to increase significantly their effectively, reduce their cost and to be adapted to each selected demonstrative urban pine areas.
In order to achieve the aim of the project, an update the review of state of the art and selection of the most representative pine urban areas in different European countries, study and optimization of current traps design and preliminary studies in field using the designed traps and MD system were carried out. All the partners have cooperated in order to define the best pine areas to be studied in the project.
Different designs of trunk traps and pheromone traps were tested to assess if they were effective. In order to evaluate the effectiveness of each trap, different prototypes were manufactured. With all the designs developed and their subsequent validation in the field in the different areas of the project (Greece, Italy, UK and Spain) the following should be highlighted:
This project is co-funded by the Valencian Regional Government through IVACE aids aimed at fostering the activity and capacity to develop excellence of the Valencian Community technology centres.
