AIMPLAS participates in the European project EnzOx2, coordinated by CSIC (Spanish National Research Council), whose objective is to develop new bio-chemical technologies to obtain added-value chemical compounds from biomass.
During the three years of project, the centres and companies involved, under the coordination of CSIC, will develop new bio-chemical technologies based on the use of oxidative enzymes to obtain high added-value products from biomass as an alternative to petrochemical-based raw materials.
In particular, it is expected to obtain 2, 5-furandicarboxylic acid. This is a building block, which has a great interest in the polymerization process for the subsequent formulation of PEF derivative. This material presents high performances and it is a substitute for PET, with the advantage of coming from renewable sources.
AIMPLAS plays a very important role in this part of the project, since it will be responsible for validating the industrial applications of new compounds and its features as a monomer in the formulation of a PET substitutive material.
Additives and pharmaceutical ingredients
The EnzOx2 project foresees the obtaining of flavour and fragrance ingredients (F&F) as well as pharmaceutical ingredients (API), among others from highly selective hydroxylation of plant lipids.
This project has received funding from the Bio-Based Industries Joint Undertaking within the framework of the European Union Horizon 2020 Research and Development programme with grant agreement number 720297.
