The 5th edition of the Compounding World Congress took place in Cologne on the 7th and 8th of June. 80 people attended the event, but unfortunately, Covid travel restrictions were still noticeable. Nevertheless, leading companies like SABIC, CELANESE, COPERION, MOL, SUMIKA, NANOCYL, and EASTMAN still attended, highlighting the importance of the event. The most important topics that were discussed included: sustainability and more specifically the use of bioplastics, natural reinforcements and recycled materials; the electric car and how it will affect the world of compounding in terms of the development of specific compounds such as electrical conductors, thermal conductors, flame retardants, etc. The event also showcased compounding equipment developments and Luis Roca, Head of Compounding at AIMPLAS, presented AIMPLAS´ process optimisation results for mica and carbon fibre reinforced PA6 composites.
In addition to these themes, the event also included presentations on special additives to improve flame retardancy, volatile emission reduction in the use of recycled materials, biocomposites and their equivalents in short or long glass fibre use and their final performance in mechanical and aesthetic properties.
Electric cars were also discussed concerning these topics, following the event´s circular economy theme.
